Exciting Book Week Ahead!

Next Week is Book Week!

Parents - don’t miss out! There are Book Week events for you too!

Tuesday 11th at 3.45pm and 7.30pm   (You only need to attend once!)

“Helping your child with their reading”

Parents often ask teachers for ideas and advice as to how to encourage and support children with reading and other literacy skills. This meeting, led by Mrs Stokes (English subject leader) and Mrs Everness (“Every Child a Reader“ teacher), will answer those questions. We are running this curriculum event twice, one afternoon, one evening, to enable and encourage all parents of children in all classes to come along to one of the sessions

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 3pm in the hall “Travelling Books” will provide an opportunity for parents to browse and buy new, good quality children’s books. Ideal for birthday or Christmas presents! The 3pm opening offers 15 minutes of shopping without school-age children!

There are lots of exciting activities planned for the week to help the children to improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and, most of all, to have fun enjoying a range of books and stories!

We are especially excited by the visit of Brian Moses, the well-known author and poet. This will be the first time he has visited St Matthew’s School, although a group of our talented children worked with him at a more able writers event last year.   www.brianmoses.co.uk

Professional story-teller, Linda Cotterill, will again be visiting our school to engage and inspire the children in every class with a range of wonderful tales and stories.

Children from Years 2, 5 and 6 will also be visiting Redhill Library.
