Home-school Agreement
As set out in the Mission Statement, Christian values are at the heart of all that we do. At St. Matthew’s we believe that successful partnerships between the school, the church, the parents and the children will help each pupil to take full advantage of all the school has to offer. The agreement supports this partnership in the interests of our children.
Together we will
• Promote high standards of work and behaviour.
• Support the values of the school.
As a school we will
• Provide a broad balanced and appropriate curriculum.
• Provide work suitable for children’s ages and abilities which helps them progress.
• Keep the parents informed about school activities and curriculum initiatives.
• Monitor the progress of children and provide information, advice and guidance over their work.
• Send home an annual record of achievement and arrange termly parents’ evenings during which progress will be discussed.
• Set, mark and monitor homework in accordance with the school’s Homework Policy.
• Encourage the children to do their best.
• Establish a code of behaviour to ensure a safe and caring environment.
• Praise positive behaviour.
• Inform parents of any concerns re work, behaviour, attendance or punctuality which may affect their child’s progress.
• Provide effective means of communication between home and school.
• Send home letters informing parents of their children’s actions that break the golden rules.
• Record and reward children’s behaviour through the behaviour book.
As parents I/We shall
• Inform the school about any home situations that may affect my child’s behaviour
• Let the school know of any concerns about my child.
• Regularly attend parents’ evenings to review my child’s progress.
• Ensure that homework is completed and returned on time.
• Support the school’s rules and expectations as set out in the school’s policies
• Praise my child when he/she has received praise at school
• Support my child’s learning and encourage and help them to do their best.
• Ensure that my child attends school regularly, on time and with everything she / he needs.
• Notify the school of any reasons for absence.
• Help to keep the school a safe and caring environment.
• Encourage my child to take part in the full life of the school.
• Sign and return slips of letters sent home.
• Agree to make appointments with staff when requested.
• Pay for any damage, breakages or loss for which my child is responsible in line with the Governors’ Charging & Remission Policy.
The child will
• Attend school regularly and punctually.
• Bring to school all the equipment she / he needs.
• Wear school uniform and be tidy in appearance.
• Return homework to school on time.
• Complete homework and class tasks on time.
• Have sense of pride in their achievements.
• Work to the best of his / her ability.
• Follow the five golden rules and not bully or racially harass others
• Be polite and helpful to others.
• Have a positive attitude to all school staff
• Respect and care for school property.
• Listen carefully to adults.
• Not bring chewing gum or sweets to school
• Not bring mobile telephones to school (Some parents of children who travel unaccompanied to/from school may prefer their child to have a mobile telephone. In this instance telephones must be kept in the school office during the day.)
This above home-school agreement must signed and authorised by the Headteacher, Parent/ Carer and Child.
