An exciting term ahead

Welcome back to a new term of exciting learning. It has been good to see the children settle in so quickly this week, happy to be back at school with their friends and teachers.  Please do take time to look at the high quality children’s work displayed round our school. There are some excellent examples of children’s writing. Please do celebrate our children’s achievements!

We particularly welcome new children and their families to St Matthew’s and also new members of staff. Mrs Baillie-Young, who will be teaching PE and overseeing our sports activities, and Miss Burbridge, working mainly in 3S.

There are lots of activities planned to brighten up the sometimes dark and dreary months of January and February! There are visits for some classes to Redhill library, drama activities for Reception classes and Years 1 and 2, Year 6 visit to Southwark Cathedral Education Centre for a special Olympics/Ancient Greeks-themed day entitled “The Torch”, Pancake Day lunch, sports fixtures and a special maths week which will include activities for children and a parents curriculum information event.

We are also looking forward to visits from the Chairman of Surrey County Council and headteachers and governors from other local schools who are eager to come and see first-hand the great things here at St Matthew’s School. In addition, Mrs Lightfoot and other staff from St Matthew’s have been invited to give presentations about our school and its achievements to organisations including Redhill Redstone Rotary Club, Horley Learning Partnership and St Matthew’s Church Council.
