Newsletter 4 Spring 2010

Autumn term 2010

4th - 6th October Yr 6 trip to Carroty Wood Centre

Next week is half term holiday. School reopens for the children on Monday 22nd February at 8.50am

Mr Rhodes

It is with mixed emotions that we inform you that Mr Rhodes will be leaving St. Matthew's at the end of March to take up the post of Headteacher at Woodmansterne Primary School. This is a well-deserved promotion. Although we are delighted for Mr Rhodes, we will of course miss him here at St Matthew's. He gives a lot to our school and the children.

We will shortly be advertising for a new deputy headteacher and will keep parents informed. It is likely that the new deputy headteacher will start at St Matthew's in September 2010.

Mrs Young

We send our very best wishes to Mrs Young as she begins her maternity leave. Mrs Young is a teaching assistant in Year 6 and also works at our breakfast club.

Haiti

Well done to class 2R who have raised nearly £50 for the Haiti appeal by collecting change from family and friends. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. This idea and the desire to help came from the children themselves, showing their care for others in the wider world.

Football - St Matthew's 0 Sandcross 0

Our team played extremely well to hold strong opposition to a draw. Well done!

Please can we again remind parents not to walk through the car park. Some nursery afternoon parents are particularly guilty of this, allowing their small children to run through the car park. We do not want anyone to be hurt or killed. Please use the pedestrian paths.

MUSIC

Have you started learning to play brass, woodwind or drums?
Want to make friends, play music & have fun?

"Blast Off!" ensemble meets Thursdays 4.30pm - 6.00pm
at St Joseph's School This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

This would be good for Year 4 children who are learning the clarinet.

Parents evenings

Monday 1st March 3.30pm - 6.00pm
Wednesday 3rd March 5.30pm - 8.00pm

(Years 5 & 6 have additional times on Tuesday 2nd March 3.30pm - 6.00pm so that parents can meet with maths and literacy group teachers as well as the class teacher.)

Please return the booking slip for parents evening to your child's teacher. Your confirmed appointment time will be sent to parents the week after half term.

The expectation is that all parents come to these opportunities to discuss your child's progress with their teacher . It really does benefit your child. We would request that separated parents come together - this helps both parents to hear the same information and also ensures there are enough appointment slots for everyone.

Clubs during parents evening week

On - football, JAM, choir, chess, art, creative club
Not on - Knitting, Shine, EAL homework, netball

Parent Voice

You are invited!

Coffee, cakes and conversation!

Friday 26th February at 9am
in the resource room
(opposite the nursery in the infant block.)

Do join with school staff to meet together informally for coffee and to discuss how we can continue to make our school a great place for our children. The focus this time will be to talk about future social and fundraising activities for the children and possibly adults too. Ideas already suggested include a family games afternoon and summer picnic. The morning will also include the PTA annual meeting items. If you would like to be involved in specific roles eg chairperson, secretary, treasurer please contact the office.

Do come along on the 26th with your ideas and suggestions. Your attendance will not commit you to anything!
If you are unable to come but have suggestions or ideas or would like to help with school activities please contact Mrs Lightfoot.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club would appreciate any donations of jigsaw puzzles . Please make sure all the pieces are there! Please bring any puzzles to the office or direct to breakfast club in the hall each day from 8am - 8.45am.

Please note that breakfast club stops serving food at 8.35am. Children arriving later will not, therefore, be fed!
