Football ResultFootball: St Matthew's 4 St John's 0 Our team completed their league fixtures with an excellent all-round team performance. The final games of the season will take place during the local school's tournament on Monday 29th March at Sandcross School. Parents eveningsIt was good to meet with so many parents this week to discuss your child's progress and how we can work together to help the children to achieve their best. Opportunities for teachers and parents to talk together about your child really do make a difference to their progress and achievement. Thank you to all who support the children in this way. Teachers will be contacting those parents who did not attend in order to have a conversation about your child's progress. Mrs Field will rearrange appointments which were postponed due to her being unwell. PUPIL ATTENDANCEWell done to everyone who has worked so hard to improve the children's attendance at school. At parents evening everyone was given a coloured "traffic light" sheet showing your child's attendance. This time there were significantly fewer red papers. Well done if you received a green paper. If you received a yellow paper then please continue to make sure you child is in school every day so they do not drop into the "vulnerable" red group. Those who received a red paper are being closely monitored, with Education Welfare Officer and other agencies involved. Mothering Sunday serviceYou are invited to a special Mothering Sunday service at St Matthew's Church on Sunday 14th March 10am. Children from our school will be involved in the service, singing, presenting readings & prayers. All the family are welcome! World Book Day!The children have enjoyed a variety of special activities this week to mark World Book Day. Some classes visited Waterstone's bookshop, other classes "paired up" to enjoy reading favourite books with each other. Each child has been given a special World Book Day voucher worth £1.00 which they can either exchange for a special book or use towards the cost of another book of their choice. The vouchers can be used at most book shops. Second-hand book sale at schoolThursday 18th March from 2pm in the school hall If you have any books at home that your children no longer read please bring them to school so that others may enjoy them! Please bring your donations of books to the office. The Easter Story. The cost of this excellent theatre production for the children is £3.50 per child. Thank you to all who have already paid. If you have not yet sent in your contribution please do so before the performance on 23rd March. Year 6 enjoyed a special afternoon yesterday at the annual Junior Citizen event helping the children to learn how to keep themselves and others safe. Representatives from the fire service, ambulance, police and other organisations teach the children what to do in emergency situations. We are delighted that Mrs Slater will continue teaching Year 5 for the rest of this school year. This will ensure consistency for the children. Keeping your child safeZip It, Block it, Flag it! Most parents are aware of the need to teach children how to keep safe in terms of road safety, "stranger danger" etc but what about ensuring the children use the internet and mobile ‘phones safely? "ClickCleverClickSafe" is an effective way of teaching your child internet safety ZIP IT - Keep your personal stuff private and think about what you say and do online. BLOCK IT - Block people who send nasty messages and don't open unknown links and attachments FLAG IT - Flag up with someone you trust if anything upsets you or if someone asks to meet you offline. clickcleverclicksafe.direct.gov.uk Use the Code when you talk to your children about the internet - it will help keep them safe online. Lent Appeal Week (22nd-26th March)This is our opportunity to raise money for the Bishop of Southwark's Lent Appeal which this year is supporting projects in Uganda, India, Zimbabwe, Burkino Faso, and Southwark. Throughout the week there will be various enjoyable activities which are planned and organised by the children. More information to follow. Do make sure that your children bring in a small amount of money each day in clearly named envelopes (we suggest a maximum of 50p) so that they can take part in all the activities. After Easter a small group of children will take the money we raise to a special presentation service at Southwark Cathedral in London. DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
